First off my biggest anime disappointment so far: xxxHolic
I love the manga. The xxxHolic manga was one of the first things I bought when I came to Brussels. I fell for it right away.
Now the anime that is another story.
All of Yuuko’s hints of the link between Watanuki and Sayoran seem to have vanished. The drawing style looks old and the characters are weird.Yuuko’s outfits make for half the show. Watanuki’s supernatural adventures are nice stories. Of course these good points are balanced out by each and every scene where Hiwamari and Watanuki are featured together. Hiwamari is just a flat character, in the anime, and Watanuki is nothing short of moronic. In the manga Hiwamari’s character has a bit more depth, as “her motivation” was revealed. Also the relationship between Watanuki and Doumeki doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.
If i wouldn’t have been a fan of the manga I would have probably dropped the anime.
A very big chunk of the holic charm evaporated in the transition from print to screen. Maybe the should have waited for the story to actually make sense before they did the transition.
Nevertheless I’ll watch the second season as soon as I get my hands on it .
