Gundam 00

This was the first of the Gundam series I have watched from top to bottom, as I am not that much into Mecha and the entire “war” theme didn’t much appeal to me. However, thanks to my boyfriend, for the last few months I’ve been staying up late Sunday night just see the latest Gundam.

“Humanity does best in the face of adversity” I don’t remember where the quote is from  yet it is the essence of the first season of Gundam 00.  Powerful idealistic organisation  tries to coerce mankind into unity, by whatever means necessary.  To fill in the story, tormented characters, with all the right reasons, doing all the wrong things. The end of the first series brought forth a real carnage: death, destruction and mayhem enough to strike a deep fear of what the end of season two might bring about… much like Code Geass.

Unlike Code Geass,  or unlike most anime series for that matter, season two gave us a nice big surprise only one  partial death, bad guys punished, a wedding, a child, world peace… more than I could have ever dreamed. And, despite the usual amount of fighting, it was rather positive and hopeful.  Up until the very last few seconds of the show I watched breathless, hoping the situation won’t go awfully wrong.

Regardless of the theme, Gundam 00 was a very good looking anime. The characters were very nice, so was the animation and despite being a mecha is was the sparklyest anime I’ve even seen. There were more sparkles in one Trans-am than in all of Sailor Moon.
