Now as opposed to the above-mentioned xxxHolic, this must be the biggest manga disappointment ever. Darker than Black is one of my favourite anime series so I expected, per usual, the manga to be even better.
I went though the 8 chapters I found of it in one night hoping to catch any similarities to the anime. None where discovered. I would be wrong to say the manga is bad. The story line is different and could have been integrated in the anime, with some adjustments.
It does offer a half a second glimpse into Hei past and that is where it end. The people in charge made a very very good decision by going with an entirely new story for the anime.
The one in the manga is nothing short of common. Any teenage girls wet dream of being found out to be special, touching the heart of the tall-dark-handsome and tourmened stranger and embarking on some journey and so on and so forth. Pretty much BS .
And the art was just weird. Maybe I just came across bad scans that made it looks so amateur-ish … who knows.
Bottom line: don’t even bother with the manga.
