…better than others when in the hands on Mr. Jacob Glick of Byron. And we got to see that at the Byron “Clubul Taranului” gig.

I can’t remember how long it’s been since I heard a real call for encore, not just the polite type one, the one all set lists have on to start with. So, yeah… a real one, kicking off with : ( this one goes out to my friend vdk,whom recently discovered Byron and in honour of the best band that never existed Feel Good and other songs.

I find it quite hard to say that they played a cover of something for they have so much of their own style it’s more like a tribute to a band than a cover, in the sense let’s-do-it-to-fill-a-set-list, used by most local bands .

Not much real point to bring praise again to Byron, I’ve stated times before I’m enchanted by them. Even now, after my 3rd gig, I’m at the point of not wanting to go to Funk(-Rock!?) Hotel tomorrow@Fabrica , to not lose the post-Byron gig.

Aya Kato’s Album Launch

Took place at Carturesti around 2, after the interview the artist gave for Romania 1, which I’d love to see.

First impression regarding the conference was a good how seeing how one of those girls I try to steer clear of ( trendy and smart) ,seeing I was looking at the imminently launched album , invited me to the press conference. More of, she continued to be nice and not a smart ass when talked to. Could I have been wrong all along?!

The turn out was somewhat disappointing, more of the crows you get by word of mouth rather what I imagine of a “press” event. The first digital art album of Romania isn’t a big event for any of the hip magazines out there?! So much for what I thought of them being totally in sync with the trends, demands and cool.

Looking way less intimidating, in the posh way, them some of the girls your could see at fabrica on a Saturday evening or even some of the girls there, Aya Kato seems to be, even as a second impression, all that her works are: delicate, mysterious, innocent, dreamy, happy , optimistic and somewhat exhilarating, I can quote her saying she chose digital art cause it allows her to draw faster, to capture her ideas faster.

Sharing with us her inner fairytale world as a representation of how she not hopes but believes the world can be. I believe she is one of those that can actually contribute to it.

oh, and the workshop something something…. ORANGE Concept store, friday at 6…. I think

oh and my big night just with byron, apparently the “good bye party” was last night before all the other stuff she had to do… :-<

Flower of (manga) memory

This week I was the happiest person to be stuck in traffic , on day with “emo weather” as the DJ from Radio Guerilla put it, listening to a cover of Judy Garland’s “Get Happy” and a digital art manga inspired exhibition all around me at Obor.

115 aided by a bunch of big named sponsors (Orange, HP, Adobe and other0 and a bunch of tredy sponsors ( Carturesti, Republik, Igloo Media, Radio Guerilla, Otaku group) , partnered up with the mayor of the second sector* creates a very unlikely shrine to otaku-urban art (rebrading campaign for the area?) and bring us the work of Aya Kato in “Flower of Memory” outdoor exhibition.

I found it breath taking, however being totally in the target (just check me out on myanimelist.com ) I wanted to ask others what they thought about it. My first target would have been the police man directing traffic. How someone who’s been in the rain for hours didn’t seem a good conversation partner I ended up asking someone I had lunch next to (and whom apparently lived there) what he thought. Should I be surprised he didn’t even notice? Following victims were my sis, gym instructor and everyone i remembered to ask. I’m sure as more people get wind of it ( I saw it on Tuesday and only hear commercials on the Radio about it a couple of days latter) more and more people will talk about it.

Aya Kato is ,apparently after some googling, a 26 years old well established digital artist from Japan having done works for Microsoft, Tori Amos (Sleeping with Butterflies video) , Beautiful/Decay , illustrating a book of Poem By Edgar Allan Poe, with works in magazines all over the world (even in Ikea Taiwan design catalogue ). She talks about the soul, nature, pace and love and her art is enchanting and dreamy and dark and well every where. THE WOMAN DESINGED CHOCOLATES!!! How can you not like her!?

I’ve heard that her works can also be seen at Universitatea, Romana, Victorie and Piata Presei along side Obor. I did make a point to drive past some of those location but haven’t stopped them anywhere else.

*and i don’t care if he’s looking for votes, rather then see his face and campaign slogans I’d much rather see Aya Kato’s works. I’d rather vote for someone whom uses give people art for votes (or election art) than mici and beer for votes .

Forbidden Drama

Having missed the other night’s gig (Byron@Old School) I decided to buy their album.

To mention that I did not do it on-line or from carturesti from the trendy sector or musica from the retro sector, deny it as you may , still good music exists in comercial bookstores, in other words I bought it from the mall!

In had seen it  on the shelf several times before,  but was someone reluctant about it’d  ability to capture that feeling that the live performance gave me. Truth be told, i had already listed to it and was not impressed. Still seeing it’s a cheap buy at 30 ron I gave it one more shot.

At the moment I should be writing about COMA Light seeing I attended just a few hours ago but considering I kept Forbidden Drama on continuous play since i bought it , it gets priority.

Byron is not the kind of music that clings to your ear, it’s more music that burrows in your mind and soul. So when i played the cd in my car was my second listen and it had had time to sink in.

The 13 tracks make for an album with unity , with songs fading into one another without losing theirs identity . I’d say it’s brilliant however I am in a highly subjective mood, being totally enthralled by each and every track . It’s an album with a story and a journey .

By how things are shaping up it has a high chance of ending up like Snow Patrol’s Eyes Open , the only cd I listen to for months on end.

On a side note, seeing i skipped it, the Byron Suburbia gig was jaw dropping. Having brought their own sound, with the right amount of audience , enough to form a crowd and give you space , and more important an enchanted audience ( no flute pun intended). It was pretty much a feast of a gig lasting around 2 hours. Must mention I had Jeroen with me and we both enjoyed the music immensely.

On thing puzzled me: wasn’t that suppose to be the video launch something?! I distinctly remember Dan saying @ Laptarie we’re going to have visuals as well. oh well , I couldn’t have asked for a better gig.
